Hypnotherapy
History
Hypnosis has been in use for thousands of years - there is a great deal of evidence to support that the ancient Greeks and Roman were using hypnosis for therapeutic benefit as far back as the 4th century BC.
Hypnosis comes from the Greek word 'hypnos' meaning sleep, although the actual state of hypnosis is very different to sleep.

What is hypnosis like?
Being in a hypnotic trance feels very pleasant and physically relaxing, just as you might associate with a place or situation where you have felt calm and relaxed in the past. Similar states occur when you are engrossed in a good book or daydreaming. Some experts believe we enter hypnosis as much as 80% of our day. It is as natural as breathing; in fact 15 mins of hypnosis can be the equivalent of 1 hours sleep.
Will I be asleep?
No. Your mind will be fully alert, and you will be able to hear and remember (if you wish) everything that is said to you.
Will I be in control?
Some people fear hypnosis because they believe they will be under the control of the Hypnotherapist.  In reality, you are always in control, and you will only accept suggestions that your mind perceives as beneficial to you. You can open your eyes and bring yourself out of hypnosis at any time.
Can I be made to do embarrassing things as people do on TV and stage shows?
NO.  While in hypnosis, you wouldn't do anything that you wouldn't normally do. It is important to remember that the subjects of stage or TV shows are all volunteers (usually extroverts) who are willing to be uninhibited whilst on stage.
Can anyone be hypnotised?
YES most people can be hypnotised but only if they want to be.
What is Hypnotherapy?
Hypnotherapy is the use of hypnosis for the treatment and resolution of a variety of conditions and problems. It can help you to take control of aspects of your life that you feel you should have control of.
What happens in hypnotherapy?
During hypnosis you allow yourself to become relaxed by choosing to respond to the suggestions of the therapist.  In this relaxed state you are in contact with your unconscious mind, the seat of all emotional and behavioral problems.  If we understand that the unconscious mind is about 90% while the conscious mind is about 10% we can easily understand that it is more effective to work with the unconscious mind. It is widely recognized by doctors and therapists that the mind and body are inextricably linked, and that disease or tension in the mind can lead to disease and tension in the body. In hypnotherapy we are able to get in touch with the unconscious mind and so deal directly with the cause of the problem.
