Counselling
What is counselling?
Counselling involves talking to someone who is trained to listen. It provides a space and place to explore thoughts and feelings and work on things that are important to you. Sometimes, it is helpful to speak to someone outside your family and friends who will do their best to understand how you think and feel about a situation.
As a person-centred counsellor, I believe that each person has the knowledge and inner resources to find their own way of tackling problems and their own unique answers in dealing with what is troubling them.
What can I expect from counselling?
• To be listened to
• To be accepted
• To be respected
• To be supported
• To know that what you say will be kept confidential. *

My Approach
I
am a person-centred trained counsellor, which is a theory of counselling that regards the relationship between the client and the counsellor to be of utmost importance.
As a professional counsellor I will not be judgmental of you, nor take on the role of advisor.
You will be given total unconditional respect and absolute regard for your rights as an individual.
You will not be forced to talk about things you don't want to, or asked to accept conditions or methods you do not agree with.  The counselling you receive here is solely designed to help you, help yourself, by encouraging you to explore the issues you bring to each session. This approach will give you a greater insight into your problems and so help you to overcome the personal difficulties you are experiencing.

Will Counselling cure me?
There is no overall guarantee that counselling will cure your problems.
Any prospect of improvement is essentially down to you; in terms of degree of commitment and effort you are prepared to bring to the sessions.

What am I committing myself to?
There is no set length of time and it will vary depending upon what your issues are and what you want to achieve.
To start with you might find weekly sessions helpful and then you can review with me how often you feel you might want to attend. Sessions last for 50 minutes.
Some people find one session enough, however some issues need a number of sessions and this can be agreed between us.
